historic tallac site & kiva beach

earlier this week, we did a little exploring. having spring like temperatures when all the state parks are closed is definitely the way to go! no crowds. it’s like our own private parks.

we walked through the historic tallac site. apparently back in the late 1800s, lake tahoe was a favorite getaway for northern california’s successful and wealthy entrepreneurs. glamorous parties, summertime festivities and beach-side recreation.

from the valhalla tahoe site …

“In the 1860′s, the south shore of Lake Tahoe became a resting place for pioneers searching for gold. Upon completion of the transcontinental railroad in the late 1800′s, the site soon became a popular retreat for vacationers. The Tallac Resort included two major hotels, a casino and numerous out-buildings. Soon, summer estates sprang up around the Tallac Resort and the good times of the 1920′s began. Guests at the Tallac Resort and of the homeowners enjoyed saloons, boat rides and an incredible dance floor mounted on springs!”

    • I don’t think we would either. I think during the summer it’s a mad house, but I’d just go deeper into the woods. Away from the city. There’s so many little lakes around here, I’m sure we could find a non-touristy one 🙂

Thoughts?!?
